January 06 Northen ThailandThailand thus far has treated me quite nicely. I'm currently in my second week of taking Thai language lessons. It's not as hard as you might think, but challenging none the less. I love it.
I'm also taking a Thai message course in the afternoons. Don't even think I'll be giving away free messages when I come to visit! ;)
Here's the lowdown on the photobook titled ' Chiang Mai':
First pics are of me in my Thai house and then of the garden area. I'm staying with this amaizing Thai family. They own their own restaurant and are so great. I'm really lucky I stumbled on to the place and they invited me to stay. The group photo is of my Thai message classmates. There's photos of the downdown Chiang Mai area, homes, temples, etc. The next 'festival' photos were of New Years eve in the main square. They had a large stage with live performances, a countdown, fireworks, food and the 'chineese' lanterns that they let off at midnight. It was one of the most amaizing sights I've ever seen. The whole sky was lit with these lanterns, it was as if a million fireflys filled the sky.
The next photo album is of areas just north of Chiang Mai. I was invited to a Thai B-B-Q with students from the language center (where I'm talking my thai language lessons) and had a great time. The next day, after camping out on the farm I went to the Chiang Mai Elephant Converservation Center. It's sad to see the elephants at this camp for only tourist entertainment, but because of the forest conservation movement (which is great) many elephants are 'out of work' and have no where to go, so many end up at this center.
So far, it's been a great experience here in Thailand and I'm looking forward to the next few months here.
Peace and love.
